Trainers
Felicitas Von Neumann-Cosel
Since arriving from Germany in 1983, Felicitas has trained many horses to Grand Prix level. Recently, she won the BLM Championships at Fourth Level on Roulette, a 1996 Oldenburg. The following year, they won the BLM finals at Prix St. George, and were Reserve Champion at Intermediare I. They made their debut appearance in 2007 at Grand Prix, winning the class with a 70% and winning several Grand Prix’s with scores in the high 60's.
In her native Germany, Felicitas placed first when completing her “Reitlehrer” (federally certified instructor) certification. She also graduated with the highest score ever awarded at the time since the program was upgraded by the German government in 1982. Felicitas also served as a USDF examiner for the Instructor’s Certification Program here in the United States. She edited Reiner Klimke’s book Ahlerich: The Making of a Dressage Champion, and is a frequent contributor to Dressage Today and Practical Horseman.
Under the direction of Felicitas von Neumann Cosel, First Choice Farm has developed into a world class training facility. Horses of all ages and levels are received for short term training, or long term sponsorship from all over the United States. In addition, full training board is available to local riders and their horses. Felicitas also travels throughout the United States teaching clinics.
She is an effective and articulate clinician, whose style is sympathetic to the horse. Her strength lies in “making the horse more beautiful, and allowing them to express themselves.” She is sympathetic to the horse and each is trained according to his temperament and individual needs following the principles of classical dressage. Felicitas patiently encourages the horse to stretch into a soft hand, lift his back and carry his own neck “as if peering over the edge of a cliff”.
